Kimberly Ann Smith

Kimberly Ann Smith, age 51, of Taneytown, Maryland, died peacefully on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, Maryland.  Born September 20, 1964 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Mildred (Riordan) Smith.  

Kimberly was a 1982 graduate of Francis Scott Key High School, and later received training at Carroll Community College, becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant in 2005.  Kimberly was employed at Random House for nineteen years, where she worked in various departments.  She was an active member and communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Taneytown where she enjoyed faithfully leading the church in praying the rosary before Mass on Saturdays. Kim was also a member of the Ladies Sodality of the Blessed Mother.   She was a two-time recipient of the State of Maryland Governor’s Volunteer Service Certificate, awarded in 2005 and again in 2010.  Kim spent a few years living independently and attending the West End Adult Medical Daycare, where she made many friends.  She enjoyed participating in their many trips, games, and weekly entertainment.  She enjoyed socializing with friends and making new friends at every chance, and loved her visits to the Senior Center to play Pinochle.  She loved crocheting, playing games and putting puzzles together.  Kim was an avid card player and Bingo aficionado, always attending Bingo with her boyfriend Jonathan on the weekends.  She enjoyed her final months at Morning Breeze Assisted Living, where she quickly made friends with each staff member and resident.  

Surviving are sisters Kathleen Smith and Tina Adams and husband Todd, all of Taneytown; nephew Christopher Ricketts and wife Courtney of Florence, Oregon; nephew and Godson, Shawn Ricketts of Hanover, Pennsylvania; and lifelong boyfriend Jonathan Harrison of Finksburg, Maryland.

With Kim’s final act of kindness and giving, she requested that her body be donated to the Maryland Anatomy Board to be used for medical education and research.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held St. Joseph Catholic Church in Taneytown, Maryland on Saturday, September 17 at 11am. Inurnment will follow at the Keysville Union Cemetery.
