Carl Auman Sell, 93, formerly of Odenton, MD, died on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at Carroll Lutheran Village in Westminster.  Born December 29, 1923 in Akron, OH, he was the son of the late William Henry and Grace Myrtle (Auman) Sell.  He was the beloved husband of the late Ruth Jean (Ohler) Sell.  They were married for 64 years.

Carl was a Master HVAC Mechanic and Journeyman Sheet Metal Worker.  He was a member of the Sheet Metal Union.  He retired during the 1980s from the United States National Security Agency, where he worked as an HVAC Technician and Maintenance Engineer.  He was a lifetime student, always yearning to learn, whether studying mechanical drawing at the Maryland Institute College, engineering at Johns Hopkins McCoy College, or HVAC maintenance and financial markets at Anne Arundel Community College.  He was a proud veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, attaining the rank of Sergeant and serving for 3 years during World War II on the Island of Saipan.  He was a life-long member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Taneytown.  He and his wife Ruth were married there in 1952.  He was a member of Masonic Lodge #209 in Odenton.  In his younger years, Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, bee keeping, and working on the farm.

Carl’s family was always his first priority, from helping his parents make the family farm work to starting and caring for his own little family.  He was steadfast in life but always a dreamer.  He was very outgoing and loved to talk with people wherever he went.  He was known as “Mr. Fix-It” and was always willing to help where needed.

He is survived by daughter, Donna Macola and husband Joseph of Pasadena; sister, Mildred Irene Sell of New Oxford, PA; granddaughters, Katherine Young and husband Bradley of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and Amy Holt and husband Richard of Pasadena, MD; 4 great-grandsons, Brayden, Collin, Levi and Oliver; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 18, 2017 at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD, with the Rev. Cristopher Frigm officiating.  Interment will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home on Friday.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 38 W. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD  21787, or to Carroll Lutheran Village, 300 St. Luke Cir., Westminster, MD, 21158.
