Waneta Catherine Sackman

Waneta C. Sackman, 87, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2022 at Lorien Assisted Living, Taneytown, where she had lived since July 2020. Born January 12, 1935 in Hanover, PA she was the daughter of the late J. Walter and Margaret (Bankert) Senft. She grew up in Frizzellburg and was a 1953 graduate of Westminster High School. Waneta held various secretarial positions, the last being at Western Maryland College where she met her future husband, Charles R. Sackman. After marrying in 1965 and starting a family, they moved back to her family’s farm in Taneytown and operated Charlie & Waneta’s Country Kitchen for 15 years. After retiring from the restaurant business, she helped to manage the farm, worked at Crouse Ford, volunteered with the Carroll Hospital Auxiliary working in the gift shop for many years, volunteered as the area coordinator for American Red Cross blood drives, and actively volunteered at her church, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Taneytown, as a member of various committees, the Mite Society, and assisting with monthly worship services at Lorien Taneytown.  She enjoyed feeding and watching the birds out her kitchen window, gardening, cooking, taking care of others, going on her monthly outings with the lunch bunch ladies, and spending time with her family.  She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Charles Baber, and Sherri and G. David Sensabaugh. Her pride and joy were her four grandchildren, Madison Baber, Bradley Sensabaugh, Benjamin Baber, and Annie Sensabaugh. 

The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Monday, January 31, 2022 at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 136 East Baltimore Street, Taneytown (21787) and 10 a.m., Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 38 West Baltimore Street, Taneytown (21787) where the funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. with Vicar Cody Danner and Deacon Charles Barnhart Officiating.  Interment will be in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be offered in Mrs. Sackman’s name to the Trinity Lutheran Church, 38 West Baltimore Street, Taneytown, MD 21787.  Online condolences may be offered www.myersdurborawfh.com.  The service will be Live Streamed on the church’s YouTube page, Please visit: Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Taneytown.
