Anna Dundore Motter

Anna Dundore Motter, 94, of New Oxford, PA (formerly of Taneytown, MD) died peacefully Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at Dove House, Westminster, MD.  Born July 21, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Paul Jonathan and Mary Catherine (Karsnitz) Dundore and the wife of the late George W. Motter, Sr., her husband of 69 years.

Anna earned her bachelor’s degree from Gettysburg College in 1949.  She went on to become a Carroll County language arts teacher, retiring in 1977.  Anna passionately served in numerous volunteer roles in her beloved Taneytown, serving as chairwoman of the Board of Zoning Appeals, as a founding member of the Taneytown Main Street Board and as chairperson for the Promotion Committee, launching the downtown area’s Annual Ice Cream Social. 

A fine soprano soloist and musician, Anna served as choir director at Grace United Church of Christ for 34 years and founded and directed the Community Advent Chorus from 1980 until 1999.  She served in countless local and conference-wide church leadership roles.

She had a lifelong love of playing duplicate bridge, achieving her goal of Life Master in 2011.  An avid sports fan, Anna especially loved the Orioles, Ravens, and Maryland Terps.  She delighted in dining out with friends and welcomed any and every opportunity to brag about her beloved family.

Anna is survived by her children, Marianne M. Barbour (husband, Bill) of Loudon, TN, George W. Motter, Jr. of Baltimore, MD and David P. Motter (wife, Meg) of Hanover, PA; grandchildren, Chrissy and Jimmy Calhoun (wife, Jessica), Justin Travis, Joshua, Jacob, Jordan, Jennah and Julianne Motter; great-grandson, Jaxon Calhoun; nephew, Steve Dundore (wife, Kim) and niece, Mary Louise Dundore.

She was predeceased by her brother, Alvin Paul Dundore.  The family is most appreciative of the tender care and love provided to Anna by her caregiver and “bestie” of three years, Ms. Jodie Keller.

The family will receive friends at Myers Durboraw Funeral Home (136 E. Baltimore St. Taneytown, MD) on Saturday, July 23, 2022 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.  A Celebration of Life will be held at Grace United Church of Christ (49 W. Baltimore St. Taneytown) on Sunday, July 24, 2022 at     2 p.m. with Pastors Steven Ostendorf and Bonnie Whittier officiating.
