Thomas White Obituary

Thomas Walter White, 76, of Thurmont, passed away on Friday, August 3, 2018 at Gettysburg Hospital in Gettysburg, PA.  Born December 31, 1941 in Emmitsburg, he was the son of the late Herbert and Irene (Adams) White.  He was the devoted husband of Peggy (Willhide) White, to whom he was married for almost 53 years.

Tom was a Maintenance Specialist with State Farm Insurance Company in Frederick for 23 years.  He was previously employed by Myers Radio and TV in Emmitsburg.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Emmitsburg and was a proud veteran of the Army National Guard.  He loved spending time at Vigilant Hose Company in Emmitsburg where he could be found brewing the first pot of coffee every morning for the “Coffee Club” and sharing the day’s news and stories of what was happening around town with fellow members.  He was a life-long member of VHC and served throughout the years in a variety of positions, including, Treasurer, Secretary, Director, 2nd Assistant Chief, 1st Assistant Chief, Chief, and member of the Board of Directors.  He was inducted to the VHC Hall of Fame in 1998 for his distinguished and extraordinary service to the company and the community.  He was also Past President of the Frederick County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association.  Tom was a fan of the Baltimore Orioles.  More than anything, he loved sitting on his front porch and spending time with his family.  He was very proud of his grandchildren.

Surviving, in addition to his beloved wife Peggy, are daughters, Lori Brown, Patty Wehage and husband Joe, and Jean Dinterman and husband Bob, all of Thurmont; son, Rick White of Carson City, NV; sisters, Frances Miller of Littlestown, PA, Kathleen Shorb of Fairfield, PA, and Betty Ann Knovich of Etters, PA; brother, William “Dave” White and wife Julie of Woodsboro; grandchildren, Ashley Brown, Chad Brown, Sara White, Marlee Dinterman, Logan Dinterman, Samantha White, Brady Wehage and Gabe White; step-grandchildren, Jennifer Stonebraker and Joey Wehage, Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.  He is also remembered by special friend, Frank Davis.  He was predeceased by a brother, Sterling “Bud” White.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 47 DePaul St., Emmitsburg, MD with the Rev.
