Joan Marie (McCleaf) Allen

          Joan Marie Allen, 61, of Durham, NC and formerly of Emmitsburg, MD passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Duke Medical Center in Durham.  Born June 1, 1957 in Adams County, PA, she was the daughter of Jack and Anna (Hobbs) McCleaf of Columbia, MD.

          Joan was a Registered Nurse, providing hospice care for patients at University of North Carolina Medical Center in Chapel Hill.  She was a lover of people, animals and her work.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, her many friends and her pets.

          Surviving, in addition to her parents, are sisters, Sandra Ellis of Baltimore, Freda Chase and husband Robert of Highland, MD and Narda Namrow and husband Anthony of Bethany Beach, DE; brother, Douglas McCleaf of Germantown, MD; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

          A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD with Pastor Jon R. Greenstone officiating.  Burial will follow at Emmitsburg Memorial Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.
