Jean (Schwatka) Hanna

Jean Elizabeth Hanna, 86, of Littlestown, PA passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Morning Glory Senior Living in Littlestown surrounded by her loving family.  Born January 9, 1932 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Charles Eugene and Eleanor Elizabeth (Heil) Schwatka.  She was the wife of the late Robert N. Hanna, Jr., to whom she was married for 49 years.

Jean was secretary to the pastor of Arlington Baptist Church from 1968-1978.  She then worked as secretary, receptionist and office manager at the Reisterstown Road Plaza from 1980-1999, and from 2000-2012 she worked at Carroll Christian Schools in Westminster.  She was a member of Church of the Open Door.  She enjoyed knitting, gardening, traveling and spending time with her family.

Surviving are daughter, Su Shaffer and husband Bill of Littlestown, PA; grandson, Dan Shaffer and wife Mary of Reisterstown; granddaughters, Chelsea Freter of Salisbury and Bethany Hartlaub of Littlestown, PA; great-grandchildren, Noah, Skyler, Ethan, Katelyn, Dalton, Eli and Matthew.  She was predeceased by a daughter, Janit E. Freter.

The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, April 8th at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD.  A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 9th at the funeral home with Jean’s pastor, the Rev. Dr. John A. Campbell officiating.  A committal service and burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10th at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg .
