Auburn Wakefield Obituary

            Auburn May Wakefield, 87, of Westminster, Maryland, died peacefully on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at the Golden Crest Assisted Living.

            Born May 14, 1930 in Morgantown, W.VA, she was the daughter of the late Artie E. and Mary D. (Fullem) Kelley.  She was the loving and devoted wife of 65 years to the late Walter Junior Wakefield who predeceased her in 2015.

            Auburn was employed with Baltimore Federal Savings and Loan and Maryland National Bank.  She pursued a degree in Paraprofessional Counseling focusing on Gerontology and received her associate’s degree from Dundalk Community College at the age of 44.  She was active with volunteer work and was Activities Director at the Dundalk Senior Center, a Baptist Training Union Teacher, Bible School Teacher’s Assistant, and an Assistant Leader in the Brownies.  Auburn loved her family.  When she would see her great-grandchildren her face would light up.  She was determined, persevering, resilient, strong, enjoyed helping others and most importantly loving.  She was an amazing woman who will be missed dearly.

            Surviving are daughters, Sharie Wakefield-Wase of Pikesville, MD, and Kathy Lynn Wakefield and husband William Wolfe of Hanover, PA; grandchildren, Melissa Manning and husband David of York, PA, Alana Wase of Washington, D.C., and Frank Richter and wife Ashley of Enola, PA; great-grandchildren, Meadow and Strummer Manning; and several nieces and nephews.

            She was predeceased by son-in-law, Robert Wase.

            A memorial service to celebrate Auburn’s life will be announced at a later date.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Taneytown, MD.

            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Taneytown Baptist Church, 4150 Sells Mill Rd., Taneytown, MD  21787.
