Steven Earl “Spanky” McCoy, 48, of Taneytown, MD died unexpectedly on Friday, June 16, 2017 at his home.  Born November 27, 1968 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of Ronnie McCoy and wife Faye of Smithsburg, and Gail (Greene) Starliper and husband Tim of Hagerstown.  He was the devoted husband of Amy (Sell) McCoy.

        Steve was a Lieutenant with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department’s Corrections Bureau, where he served for 25 years.  He was a member of Carroll County FOP Lodge 20 in Westminster and Hesson Snider American Legion Post 120 in Taneytown.  He attended Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Taneytown.   Steve enjoyed seeing classic cars, hunting, riding motorcycles, following NASCAR racing, and spending time with his family and friends.

        Surviving, in addition to his beloved wife Amy and his parents, are children, Cory Steven McCoy and Danielle Pearl Renner.

        A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 19, 2017 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 38 W. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD, 21787, with the Rev. Cristopher Frigm officiating.  Interment will be private.  The family will receive friends from 1-3 and from 5 p.m. until the time of the service Monday at the church. 

        Arrangements have been entrusted to MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, in Taneytown.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Danielle Renner College Fund, 5443 Arnold Rd., Glenville, PA, 17329..
