Kathleen P. Smith, a long-time resident of Middletown, NJ, joined her beloved husband, Bob, in heaven on Thursday, July 21, 2016. She was 89 years old.

Daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Murray) Snype, and sister of Marie Mosher and the late Edward Snype, she was raised in Union City, NJ. She was the wife of the late Robert V. Smith for 64 years. Married in 1949, she and Bob moved to Middletown, NJ in 1958, where they raised their four children.

After her youngest child started at St. Mary’s School, Kathleen put herself through Monmouth College and helped educate children as an elementary school teacher, at Harmony School in Middletown, for 20 years. Kathleen and Bob (WWII Veteran and elementary school principal for more than 30 years) retired in 1986, and lived in both Barnegat, NJ and Hobe Sound, FL, before moving to Taneytown, MD in 2005.

Kathleen was an active member in her local Catholic church and sodality. She was a true believer in the power of prayer, was an avid bridge player, and enjoyed playing the piano and being around her four children, seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Kathleen’s legacy includes her children, Elizabeth Anne Smith, of Taneytown, MD, Lawrence F. Smith and wife Susan, of Narrangansett, RI, Brian E. Smith and wife Patty, of New Windsor, MD, Robert J. Smith and wife Karen of Lawrenceville, GA; grandchildren, Patricia Anne and husband Nathan, Brian A. and wife Katie, Jaclyn and husband Alex, Andrew and wife Amy, Zachary, Sarah, and Victoria; and great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Matthew, Brian J., Emily, Leah, Laura, Owen, and Emmet.  She was predeceased by her brother, Ed, and her husband, Bob.  

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown, MD with Father John F. Lesnick and the Rev. Robert Mosher as celebrants.  Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD.
