Dorothy Irene Wantz, 93, of Harney, MD passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at her daughter’s home surrounded by her loving family.  Born March 23, 1924 in Taneytown, she was the daughter of the late William M. and Carrie J. (Wantz) Vaughn.  She was the wife of the late John Russell Wantz, Jr., to whom she was married for 53 years.

Dorothy was an assembly worker at Cambridge Rubber Company in Taneytown for several years.  She also worked in other local companies throughout her life.  She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Harney.  She enjoyed cooking, playing cards and games of chance, and spending time with her family, especially at holiday gatherings.

She is survived by daughter, Lori Bowers and husband Leonard of Harney; grandchildren, Kendall W. Bowers and Madelyn L. Bowers; and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by granddaughter, Lindsey Bowers; and all 13 of her sisters and brothers.   

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD with the Rev. Dr. Peter J. Naschke officiating.  Interment will follow at Sunrise Cemetery in Harney.  The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
